Coming from rich sporting backgrounds, Paul Walton and Christian d’Astoli have been involved with sport for the last 20 years. Whether playing or coaching, Wal and Christian have never been far from the action.
After affiliating CrossFit Athletic in 2009, they immersed themselves fully in the CrossFit methodology. Success at the box took them to the 2012 CrossFit Games in LA, where they both represented in the CrossFit Athletic team. Wal qualified again as part of the team in 2014, and Christian wore the Coach’s hat as they realise the importance of having a Coach separate to the athletes. This is a transition they have worked on effectively and their focus is on programming and coaching for athletes, both those seeking to perform in CrossFit and day-to-day participants.
Over the 6 years that CrossFit Athletic has been established, they have grown to 3 locations in Sydney with over 600 active members. In the competitive field, they have programmed and coached an Individual Women Competitor (Sammy Wood, 2015), multiple teams (CrossFit Athletic, 2012, 2014, 2015 and 2016) and multiple Masters competitors (Kylie Massi, 2015, 2016, 2017 Hannah Chominsky 2016, 2017 and Francine Pehi 2016).
What makes these achievements more special is that all of these competitors have held full time jobs or commitments – from banking, plumbing, paramedics, town planning and mothers – whilst training for the Games. The time and effort that Wal and Christian put into programming and coaching these athletes takes into account their full-time commitments and schedules, but always with the aim to help them achieve their dreams.
Wal and Christian have an understanding of what it takes to coach an athlete that wishes compete at the top level and how to realise success for an athlete who has the potential. It is for this reason that they have created Peak by Athletic, to bring their programming and coaching to a broader community that is looking for that edge in competition.
